On the #63
The Birthday Edition
Happy second birthday to The List – what a whirlwind! We have now catalogued over 690 changes.
Working on The List often feels like being out on a limb – trying to piece together what’s really going on from information that isn’t always forthcoming or consistent. Most of the time we’re out there stitching together small updates and half‑announced changes, long before any of it shows up in an annual report or press release.
The List starkly reminds us that, despite the headlines, grant-makers' distribution and priorities have shifted significantly.
As a human- and community-led information project, it's been shaped by countless fundraisers who've shared updates, corrections, and encouragement-thank you for making the landscape more open, one message and submission at a time. Over 2,200 of you are now subscribed!
Today feels like the perfect moment to grab a slice of cake and a large mug of tea, and to offer a big, heartfelt thank you to everyone who's held my hand, listened to my ramblings, trusted my work, and believed (stubbornly, alongside me) that better information belongs in everyone's hands.
Who knew that sharing a simple Google sheet could end up here?
This month also marks six months since The List moved onto its own website. What a steep learning curve in project management of which Tom Watson bears the brunt of.
You can now become a Friend of The List from as little as £1 a month – all information remains free to access, but your support helps us cover the unglamorous but essential bits like hosting, development and the time it takes to verify and share observations and trends with the whole sector (and if you do spot the glamorous bits, please tell me where they’re hiding!).

Open to Work
It doesn’t happen often, but I actually have capacity for new clients. I specialise in prospect research and building fundraising pipelines. I love working with teams to craft creative copy to bring ideas and proposals to life. My work on The List, keeps me plugged into what’s really happening in the funding world, so my advice is always grounded in real-time insight - portfolio reviews are absolutely my bag!
Alongside client work, I’m also open to sharing insights from The List through paid opportunities - chatting with both funders and fundraisers about what nearly two years of data tells us about the shifting landscape of UK grant-making. Recent collaborations have included sessions with Fundraising Everywhere, Trusts and Major Donors Conference, Fair Collective's Small Charity Week Programme, Get Grant's Masterclass and as headliner speaker at Arts & Business Northern Ireland.
And, because I miss the deep-dive side of research and shaping the bigger picture, I’d love to dip back into policy-focused projects, literature reviews, and research exploring wider social issues - the systems, inequalities, and stories that sit behind the funding landscape.
